<image:title>Tools & Publications - What makes us human? | An incomplete, but operative definition</image:title>
<image:caption>The Smithsonian Institute identified six primary traits that evolved over the course of six million years, which led to the development of modern humans: Bipedalism; tool-making; anatomical adaptiveness to differing climates; increased brain size; social life; and, symbolic thought, particularly in relation to language. Our analyses will be focused on these key traits, which evolved symbiotically and influenced one another over the course of human evolution, and can be rendered into more inclusive categories of toti-potentiality: language and communication, social adaptiveness through collaboration, cognitive agency or critical thinking, and creativity. These faculties are extensions of broader mental capacities: mental time travel, theory of mind, and language.</image:caption>
